Magnete Tombolo

(English) Tombolo is the name for a lacework made on a cylindrical cushion with wooden sticks – known as “fuselli” – around which the cotton thread is woven. It is one of the oldest handwork (second half of the XVth Century) and is the highest expression of artistic handicrafts of the Abruzzi. The Tombolo tradition is still alive in many parts of the Abruzzi, especially in Pescocostanzo thanks to a Museum and a Tombolo lacework school (1992); Scanno where the Tombolo adorns the traditional woman costume; L’Aquila where in the past the Tombolo became a work of art.
